Texas

Listed below are descriptions of the purpose of each of the SPA locations in Texas.

Rice Research Unit

http://usda-ars-beaumont.tamu.edu/

Utilize all available and appropriate technologies to develop broadly useful rice germplasm and identify and evaluate the milling, cooking, nutritional, and processing qualities of new rice varieties and selections developed by rice breeders in Federal/State varietal improvement programs in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

Anna McClung, Research Leader

Conservation and Production Research Laboratory

http://www.cprl.ars.usda.gov/

Develop improved water management methods and irrigation technology for sustaining or enhancing crop productivity, improving water use efficiency, reducing ground water use, and enhancing water and soil quality; develop management practices that optimize the use of water, soil, climatic, and nutrient resources for economically and environmentally sustainable crop and livestock production systems under dryland and limited-irrigation conditions; develop systems for utilizing renewable energy sources (wind, solar, and biofuels) for pumping irrigation, livestock, and farmstead water and generating electric power; and develop regimens that reduce environmental risks posed by accumulations of feedlot wastes by reducing the phosphorus content, improving nutrient utilization, and applying manure to grasslands.
